So far, only a few clinical trials with vanilla or vanillin have been undertaken or completed. The details of these studies are summarized in Table 3. However, only one out of these clinical trials was directed to assess the therapeutic potential of vanilla, while others were aimed to study the calming effect of vanilla/vanillin fragrance on the distressed infants with neonatal hypoxia and temporary Apnoea. Although few in numbers, these trails suggest that it is time to work towards and realize the therapeutic potential of vanilla/vanillin.
